EDUCATION :

1976 : Graduated from University of Madras, Presidency College, India by appearing for B.A. (Psychology) examination.

1978 : Post graduated from University of Madras, India by appearing for M.A. (Applied Psychology) examination obtaining overall grade ‘O’ (Distinction)

1981 : M.Phil. in Medical & Social Psychology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore, (Bangalore University) India receiving the Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student.

1988 : Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (A Neuropsychological Study of Cognitive Deficits in Schizophrenia.) from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore, Bangalore University, India 

PROFESSIONAL & CONSULTING:

1978-1979: Hon. Psychologist, Port Trust Hospital, Chennai, India.

1978-1979: Junior Research Fellow, Department of Psychiatry, Govt. General Hospital, Chennai for Indian Council of Medical Research project “Interaction patterns and personality profiles of families of Schizophrenic patients”.

1985-1986: Assistant Research Officer, Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, for a Ministry of Social Welfare Project ‘Drug Abuse among University students – A Multi-centered Study’

1988-1989: Consultant Psychologist and Counselor, Sawan Public School, New Delhi.

1988-1993: Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre, New Delhi.

1993-Present: Private practice in Clinical Psychology, ‘PARIVARTAN Centre for Mental Health’, New Delhi.

1991-1996: Consultant Neuro-psychologist to ‘The Indo-US Dementia Cross National Epidemiology Study’ under aegis of National Institute of Aging, USA, in collaboration with Center for Aging Research, India. Involved in the development of a Cognitive Screening Battery of tests for Dementia and in the training of Community health workers in its administration. 

1997-Present: Trustee, ‘RAHAT Charitable and Medical Research Trust, New Delhi, NGO, working for mental health awareness

2001-2002: Consultant Psychologist to J.K. Industries, Corporate Office, 
New Delhi.

2002-Present: Founder, MIND’S VISION, New Delhi, Mental Health Consultancy services.

2002-Present: Member, Governing Council of Richmond Fellowship Society, India – Delhi Branch (VISHWAS) – A Rehabilitation Facility for Mentally Ill.

2004-Present: Expert Consultant for course on ‘Geriatric Care’ at National Institute of 
Social Defense, New Delhi 

2005-2006: Consultant, UNICEF-NIPCCD, New Delhi for Project ‘Extension of Counseling Services to Child Survivors of Trafficking’. This involved the planning, production, pretesting, and finalization of a training module for counseling child survivors of trafficking, along with capacity building of caregivers from GOs and NGOs across the country in the area of anti trafficking.

2006-Present: Expert Faculty for training and supervision of students for the course ‘Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counseling’ conducted by National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, under the aegis of the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India.

2008-Present: Expert, Panel of Consultants for www.healthyindia.org.in under aegis of Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI).

    o Counseling skills for NGO workers in area of Child Abuse, Neglect & Trauma.
    o Counseling skills for police officials working in the Crime Against Women cell for dealing with domestic violence and women in distress.
    o Counseling and Communication skills for officers of public and private sector institutions, focusing on Sexual Harassment in the workplace.
    o Family counseling for those working with children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS.
    o Cognitive Behavior Therapy for School teachers from Bhutan attending Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counseling at NIPCCD, Bangalore.
    o Empowering adolescents to deal with violence for officials working in the field of HIV/AIDS.

Involved in the production of several programs on mental health awareness and counseling both in print and electronic media. Some notable contributions are:

· MIND YOUR MIND – Researcher and Scriptwriter of a 13 part documentary series on mental health issues telecast on Doordarshan (State sponsored Indian Television Channel).
· MINDWATCH – Researcher and Scriptwriter of a 26 part documentary series on mental health issues and illnesses, telecast on Doordarshan and the longest series in the world on mental health in non-fiction format (English and Hindi).
· KHAMOSH SHATRU (Hindi) – Researcher of a 6 part documentary series on AIDS awareness telecast on Doordarshan.
· BETTER HALVES – Co-producer and Scriptwriter of 2-part documentary on women’s health issues telecast on Doordarshan.
· BODY, MIND, SOUL – Co-producer and Script writer of 4 part documentary series on holistic health issues telecast on Doordarshan.
· BACHEN AUR BACHAYEN (Hindi) Audio series on Malaria for D.A.V.P. and National Malaria Control Program. 
· Associate Director and Content Writer of ‘MANN KI BAAT’ a 78 program series on preventing mental illnesses and promoting mental health for Doordarshan, National Channel (www.mannkibaat.com). 
· Weekly guest columnist of a national newspaper (Hindustan Times - H.T. City) for about three years (1999-2002) ‘BEHAVIOUR’ on (Mental Health issues) and ‘RELATIONSHIPS’ a counseling column on psychological, interpersonal and psychosexual issues. 
· Columnist on premarital and marital counseling in WEDDING AFFAIR a quarterly magazine. (2002-2005)
